About the Project

The client had a property in El Rosario, Marbella, and contacted Marblanc for a second opinion on their solar installation. Marblanc Solar installed a new 8kW system to cut the client’s monthly electricity costs by around 80%.

Background

The client’s property was a large villa in the El Rosario area in Marbella.

The client was referred to Marblanc Solar following a recommendation. They had a pre-existing solar installation but were still paying electricity bills of around €400/ month and wanted a second opinion.

The client’s electricity bills were around €800 prior to going solar, due to some high-power appliances, such as a pool heater and air conditioning. As such, the installation had not fulfilled a promised 80% reduction.

We set a date for a free solar survey where we carried out a home visit, a drone inspection, 3D shading analysis, a savings estimation and a custom proposal for the client.

During the home visit, it became clear that the pre-existing solar system was not installed correctly and that there were too many panels for the inverter size. The previous installer had also used cables that were too small for the system’s power requirements, which lead to an excessive voltage drop and a serious safety risk.

It was difficult news to break but we informed the client they had to remove the old cabling entirely, replace the inverter and install appropriately sized conductors to meet current standards and ensure efficient power delivery.

We presented a custom proposal for a system which would deliver on the promise of reducing bills by 80%.

Equipment Installed

Solution

The client was reluctant to proceed, following a faulty installation where the installer hadn’t delivered on the promised 80% bill reduction.

We made three separate home visits to explain our custom proposal, the hazards of the previous installation and to walk the client through previous Marblanc Solar projects that had delivered on the promised electricity savings.

We mounted the 20 solar panels with a combined capacity of 8.1kW. We also went for an east-west setup to maximise solar electricity production, in the absence of any large south-facing roof section.

In addition, we added a 5kWh battery to reduce electricity bills even further, which was due, in part, to nighttime consumption. The 10kWh inverter meant the client could easily add more solar panels to the system in future without needing to replace any significant parts.

After the installation, we swapped the client’s bill to a new provider offering a feed-in tariff and virtual battery.

We then monitored the client’s electricity usage every day for two weeks. This helped us find inefficiencies in the client’s consumption pattern and we made improvements using plug timers and optimised circuits to reduce grid consumption as much as possible.

The client was assigned to one of our Monday-Sunday WhatsApp aftercare groups, in case they had any questions and to schedule their first free annual check-up.

Results
