About the Project

The client had purchased a new home and expected electricity costs of around €6,800 a year. Marblanc Solar installed an 18.6kW system, which will save the client over €4,000 a year.

Background

The client had purchased a villa in the Costa del Sol town of Benahavis. Their first electricity bill was €568 – far more than they expected – and they were considering solar as a solution to lower their household expenses.

Marblanc Solar has completed many solar installations in Benahavis, and the client requested a free solar survey from us. We set a date for our survey engineer to carry out a home visit, drone inspection, 3D shading analysis, savings estimation and custom proposal.

During the home visit, our survey engineer used cutting-edge solar software to calculate an annual electricity cost of over €6,800. 

The client requested any solar panels be mounted flat on the roof for aesthetic reasons. Our proposal showed the client could expect to save over €4,100 a year on expected electricity costs by covering as much of the roof space with flat-mounted panels – and have a break-even period of under 4-5 years.

Following some adjustments, the client went ahead with the installation proposal.

Solution

Our team mounted 33 solar panels with a combined capacity of 18.645kW. This system is not enough to cut electricity costs by 80% as we usually aim to achieve. However, we were limited by the roof space and aesthetic demands.

Our in-house solar installers fit the cables with no damage to any walls or piping. We were able to use existing ducting for all cabling.

As part of our post-installation support, we then secured an exclusive solar feed-in tariff with a virtual battery. The special electricity rates would have cut the client’s bill by 30% even without solar.

We also monitored the client’s electricity usage every day for two weeks to suggest ways to optimize their appliance usage and set up plug timers. Then, we assigned the client to one of our Monday-Sunday WhatsApp aftercare groups, should they have any questions, and to schedule their first free annual check-up.

Results

The client was satisfied with the service from Marblanc Solar, especially our ability to secure a special electricity deal that enhanced their savings.
