About the Project

The client wanted a solar installation to lower electricity costs for their Airbnb rental. Marblanc Solar installed a 14.28kW solar energy system, which will also reduce electricity costs by over €3,341 a year.

Background

With the challenge of short-term rental tenants using air conditioning excessively, the property owner was motivated to go solar to save money and stabilise operating costs.

Marblanc Solar already has many solar panel installations in Mijas, including in La Cala de Mijas. We always begin with a free solar survey that includes an on-site visit, drone roof inspection, shading analysis, and a tailored proposal.

During the home visit, our survey engineer discovered the client’s annual bill was approximately €4,100 (around €342 per month). 

The client had a special request for the design: they wanted the panels to remain as inconspicuous as possible when viewed from the villa’s gardens and outdoor areas.

This shaped our proposal significantly, as aesthetics were almost as important as maximising energy yield.

Solution

Our team installed a 14.28kW system across the villa’s available roof surfaces, distributing the panels in a way that kept them discreet while still generating maximum energy.

One of the challenges was balancing the client’s request for flat, inconspicuous panels with the technical requirement for panel tilt. We mounted the panels at a subtle 15-degree incline, which made them nearly invisible from the garden while improving power generation and ensuring rainwater runoff.

As part of our post-installation support, we then secured an exclusive solar feed-in tariff with a virtual battery.

We also monitored the client’s electricity usage every day for two weeks to help optimise their appliance usage with plug timers and use of our solar app. Finally, we assigned the client to one of our Monday-Sunday WhatsApp aftercare groups, should they have any questions.

Results

The client was very satisfied with the outcome: the system significantly reduced their annual energy bills by 81%, while remaining discreetly integrated into the property. As a Swedish citizen, they were also considering applying for the Swedish green energy grant, adding further value to their investment.
