About the Project

The client wanted a solar installation to protect appliances during blackouts while reducing electricity bills on a home they only use part of the year. Marblanc Solar installed a 9.5kW solar energy system, which will also reduce electricity costs by over €2,712 a year.

Background

The client wanted a reliable system capable of keeping essential appliances powered even when the property remained unoccupied.

Marblanc Solar has many solar installations in Estepona, and this project began with our standard free solar survey, including a full site assessment, drone mapping, shading study, and a customised energy proposal.

Our survey engineer confirmed the average electricity bill was around €576 per month — approximately €6,912 annually.

Although the client didn’t live in the property full time, they wanted a solution that would prevent food spoilage, alarm shutdowns, and appliance resets in the event of a grid failure.

They also wanted the system to provide a good financial return over the long term.

The final proposed installation included high-output 595W panels and a backup-enabled inverter. We later added additional panels during installation to increase production beyond the original proposal.

With the system installed, the expected costs are around €350 per month, or roughly €4,200 annually, resulting in an estimated saving of €2,712 per year.

Equipment Installed

  • 16 × 595W solar panels
  • 1 × 10kW GoodWe solar inverter
  • Backup control box

Solution

Our team installed a 9.5kW system designed to maximise self-consumption and maintain essential power supply during outages. The panels were positioned across the most productive parts of the roof to ensure strong year-round generation, even with seasonal usage patterns.

One installation challenge was adapting the system for future upgrades, particularly a planned battery addition. To prepare for this, all wiring and mounting were installed with expandability in mind, and the backup box was configured to seamlessly integrate future storage.

As part of our post-installation support, we then secured an exclusive solar feed-in tariff with a virtual battery.

We also monitored the client’s electricity usage every day for two weeks to help optimise their appliance usage with plug timers and use of our solar app. Finally, we assigned the client to one of our Monday-Sunday WhatsApp aftercare groups, should they have any questions.

Results

The client was pleased with the installation and the savings, but especially valued the blackout protection and the fact that essential appliances would remain powered when the property was empty.

With a break-even period of just 3–4 years and the possibility of expanding the system with a battery, the installation provides both financial returns and peace of mind.
