About the Project

The client wanted a solar installation to fix the poor performance of an old system that wasn’t generating any meaningful savings. Marblanc Solar installed an 18.5kW solar energy system, which will also reduce electricity costs by over €3,972 a year.

Background

Located in Urbanisation Los Altos de los Monteros in Marbella, this multi-level villa had an existing solar setup that failed to deliver any meaningful energy savings. The previous installer had positioned panels on the ground floor in a shaded area, resulting in barely 1kW of generation.

Marblanc Solar has completed numerous solar installations Marbella, and the client asked us for a free solar survey. We carried out an on-site visit, drone imaging, shading assessment, and a customised proposal outlining the expected production and return on investment.

Our solar survey engineer discovered the home’s electricity costs were roughly €609 per month — or €7,308 annually.

With our new proposal, the expected monthly bill would fall to €278 (€3,336 per year), resulting in annual savings of around €3,972.

Initially, the client was reluctant to have panels installed on the roof, worried about potential leaks or damage. After our team demonstrated our specialist mounting system and waterproofing guarantee, he agreed to the rooftop installation — a decision that proved transformative for the home’s energy performance.

The redesigned system made full use of optimal roof space with 31 SolarEdge-connected 595W panels. Combined with a 21kW BYD battery and backup box, the villa now achieves a break-even period of 4–5 years despite roof space limitations, delivering strong long-term value and full energy independence.

Solution

Our team designed and installed a high-capacity 18.5kW SolarEdge system with 31 JA Solar 595W panels distributed across the villa’s sunniest roof areas. The new layout maximised exposure while maintaining a low-profile appearance consistent with the home’s modern architecture.

The main challenge was the client’s initial reluctance to allow any rooftop work due to leak concerns. After showing examples of our past installations and demonstrating our waterproof fixing system, the client approved the design. The project was completed efficiently, and all visible wiring was hidden for a neat, premium finish.

As part of our post-installation support, we then secured an exclusive solar feed-in tariff with a virtual battery.

We also monitored the client’s electricity usage every day for two weeks to help optimise their appliance usage with plug timers and use of our solar app. Finally, we assigned the client to one of our Monday-Sunday WhatsApp aftercare groups, should they have any questions.

Results

The client was delighted with the results — the system turned a previously non-functional installation into a high-performing solar setup delivering nearly €4,000 in annual savings.

The villa now enjoys consistent solar generation, reliable battery storage, and a professional rooftop finish that resolved his concerns about leaks, all within a projected 4–5 year break-even period.
