Solar Installation: 34 Solar Panels on a Villa in San Roque, Cádiz

We cut a client's electricity bills by €3,055 a year after installing 34 solar panels and a 20.7kWh battery on their villa in San Roque, Cádiz.

About the Project

The client, owners of a large villa in San Roque, Cádiz, wanted to bring down persistently high electricity bills and store their own solar power for evening use and backup during outages. Marblanc Solar designed and installed a 20.57kWp system of 34 solar panels paired with a 20.7kWh battery, a backup power unit and a 22kW EV charger. The system is projected to cut their electricity costs by €3,055 a year.

Background

The client’s home is a high-consumption property – a spacious villa with a pool, a garden and daily EV charging – and their electricity bills reflected it. They came to us wanting three things at once: a meaningful reduction in running costs, the ability to draw on their own solar power into the evening, and backup electricity to keep essential circuits live if the grid went down.

They are one of a growing number of homeowners across Cádiz province investing in solar installations in San Roque. Their project began with a free solar survey: our team visited the property, ran a drone analysis of the roof, scanned for shading across the day, and modelled the household’s energy use to build a proposal sized to the home rather than to a template.

Our survey engineer Alan Manning found a household consuming well above average, with an annual electricity bill of €4,051.70. The property also presented a genuine design challenge on the roof. Our energy assessment took into account:

The defining challenge was the roof itself: a split-plane layout on a complex hipped structure, with mature trees shading the western side. To protect production, a power optimiser was fitted to every one of the 34 panels, so shading on any single module could not drag down the rest. Battery storage was central to the brief from the outset. As with our 13-panel installation in Sotogrande, the client wanted to lower their bills significantly while keeping backup power on hand for future outages – so a large 20.7kWh battery and a dedicated backup unit were built into the proposal. On that basis, the system was projected to save €3,055 a year, bringing the average monthly bill down from €337.64 to around €83.05.

Solution

Our installation team fitted the 34 panels across the villa’s south and south-east-facing roof planes, keeping the main block clear of the tree line to the west and placing a smaller group on a separate lower face to make full use of the available unshaded area. Because the surrounding trees still throw afternoon shade across part of the roof, a Huawei power optimiser was installed on every panel, allowing each module to perform independently so that partial shading on one never pulls down the output of the whole string.

The array was mounted on a Sunfer MicroRail structure engineered for the tiled roof, with all DC and AC cabling routed cleanly out of sight. High-grade resin, waterproof membranes and sealing compounds were applied at every fixing point to preserve the integrity of the tiled roof and leave a weather-resistant, leak-proof finish.

Once the system was commissioned, our team spent two weeks monitoring the household’s electricity use day by day, fine-tuning plug timers and walking the client through the solar app so they could follow their own production and consumption. We secured a feed-in tariff with a virtual battery to make the most of any exported energy, and added the client to our Monday-to-Sunday WhatsApp group for ongoing aftersales care.

Results

The system is projected to save the client €3,055.09 a year at their villa in San Roque, with a discounted payback period of 9–10 years. Their average monthly electricity bill is expected to fall from €337.64 to around €83.05 – a reduction of 75%.
This sits just below Marblanc's 80% savings benchmark, which is expected on a home of this kind. A large villa with a pool and an EV charger draws considerably more power than a typical household, and the client deliberately sized the system around evening battery use and outage backup rather than bill reduction alone. Even so, the combination of 34 panels, a 20.7kWh battery and panel-level optimisers delivers a substantial cut in running costs and a strong return, with a projected ROI of 137% over the life of the system.
