Spain's public EV charging network letting you down?
If you drive an electric car in Spain, you’ll already know the frustration. Finding a working public charging point is harder than it should be – and the data backs it up. In April 2026, it was confirmed that 1 in 4 public charging points in Spain were found to be out of use. One in four.
And even when you do find a working charger, the experience is rarely straightforward. According to Spain’s OCU, around 70% of public charging points have a capacity under 22kW – meaning a 15-minute charge gives you enough power to drive around 30km.
This is why a home charging point powered by your own solar energy is increasingly the solution – not just to save money, but to properly charge your electric car.
Real-life Examples of promises delivered
Marblanc Solar offers our clients a 25-year workmanship warranty on top of standard equipment warranties. We stand behind our work and deliver on our promises of how much you'll save.
See real-life examples of bill savings achieved below.
Precisely Calculated to Achieve Zero Electricity Costs
This client in Fuengirola was renovating their home and had recently bought an electric car. We installed a 17-panel solar system paired with a 7.4kW Huawei SCharger-7KS-S0 EV charger – and sized the system precisely so they could charge their car during the day and achieve zero electricity costs. Not reduced bills. Zero.
From a €317 Monthly Bill to Affordable Solar Charging
This client in Marbella had bought an electric car and a wall-mounted charger connected to the grid – and watched their electricity bill spike to €317 a month. While the EV charger itself was already in place, we installed 17 solar panels to cut an average of €180 off their monthly bill, making charging their car significantly more affordable and reducing their reliance on grid electricity.
Solar, Battery, Charger and Backup Protection in a Blackout-Prone Area
This homeowner in Mijas Costa had recently installed a car charger and wanted a solar system to power it – but also faced frequent power outages. We installed 24 solar panels, a 7kWh battery, a 22kW Huawei EV charger, and a backup box, giving the client solar-powered EV charging and the confidence that their home would keep running even during a power cut.
The problem with how most home EV charger installations are sold in Spain
Every month we receive calls from homeowners who have installed a wall-mounted EV charger – and sometimes a full solar installation to go with it – but aren’t getting the savings they were promised. The bills are still higher than expected. The system doesn’t seem to be doing what it should.
In our experience, it’s rarely the kit that’s the problem. It’s the way the system has been set up, or the way the homeowner has been advised before committing to the installation.
At Marblanc Solar, before we specify a single piece of equipment, our qualified electrician or survey engineer takes you through a thorough Q&A to understand exactly what you need:
- Your electric car model and battery capacity
- The times of day you’re looking to charge
- How much charge is needed to keep your battery topped up
- How quickly you might need to charge in practice
- The savings you’re looking to achieve
From there, we build a proposal designed around your exact requirements – not a one-size-fits-all system pulled off a price list. And we back every installation with a 25-year workmanship warranty, which means we’re not just making promises. We’re responsible for delivering them.
What Clients Say About Our Free Solar Survey
Marblanc Solar's approach to the solar quotation is about educating – and not about "selling". But don't just take our word for it.
Our Story
When Adam Millington founded Marblanc Solar out of our Marbella office in 2022, he'd already spent years working as a qualified electrician on the Costa del Sol. He'd seen first-hand what happened when solar systems were sold by people who didn't understand electricity. Undersized arrays. Incorrect inverter configurations. Customers who'd been promised 70% savings and were still opening €200 electricity bills.
The problem wasn't the technology. Solar works. The problem was the process – and the people delivering it.
Our mission
Adam realised the need to build a company where qualified professionals handle every stage. Not salespeople. Not local handymen. Not subcontractors brought in from wherever was cheapest that week. Qualified electricians and certified survey engineers – in-house, on every job.
In 2024, certified survey engineer Roman Mitchell joined as co-owner. He brought with him a rigorous approach to system design and a commitment to solar proposals that can deliver on their promises. Together, they developed the Free Solar Survey: a process that uses precision drone scans, local solar radiation data, and the world's leading solar design software to produce a system design specific to your property.

EV Charging Experts
Any installer can mount an EV charger on a wall. The difficulty is in designing a system that actually delivers on its promises – one that charges your car on solar energy, at the speed you need, with the savings you were told to expect.
That requires expert electrical knowledge combined with a deep understanding of each client’s individual needs. It’s why our Free Solar Survey process works. Two site visits, a thorough Q&A with a qualified electrician or survey engineer, and a proposal built around your exact car, your charging habits, and your savings goals. Not a generic system. Not a salesperson’s estimate. A precisely specified installation designed to deliver what it promises – and backed by a 25-year workmanship warranty to make sure it does.
Marblanc Solar is a certified Huawei partner, giving us access to their full range of EV charging equipment and the technical support to install it correctly. We’re also experienced in connecting third-party chargers like Zappi to your solar system. If you already have a charger in place, we can work with what you’ve got.

Can a solar EV charger work during a power cut?
Not without a backup box. During a power cut, your solar inverter shuts down automatically – a mandatory safety feature that prevents electricity from being fed back into the grid while engineers are working on the lines. This means your EV charger, like everything else in your home, will stop working during an outage. The solution is a backup box, which detects the loss of grid power and instantly switches your home to draw from your solar system or battery instead. With a backup box installed, your EV charger can continue operating during a power cut, as long as there’s sufficient energy available. If you live in an area with frequent outages and want to keep charging uninterrupted, a backup box is an essential part of the system.
Can I add an EV charger to my existing solar installation?
Yes – adding an EV charger to an existing solar installation is something we do regularly. If you’re already a Marblanc Solar client, there’s a good chance your system was designed with future upgrades in mind, making the addition straightforward. If your system was installed by another company, we’ll need to assess it first to make sure it’s correctly specified to support an EV charger – in some cases, additional work may be required before we can connect one safely. If you’re not currently a Marblanc Solar client and want to explore adding an EV charger to your existing setup, get in touch and we’ll arrange a consultation.
How long does it take to charge an electric car on solar power?
Charging speed depends on the power rating of your EV charger. We install chargers ranging from 7.4kW units – such as the Huawei SCharger-7KS-S0 we fitted for a client in Fuengirola – up to 22kW chargers, like the Huawei unit we installed for a client in Mijas Costa. A 7.4kW charger will typically add around 40–50km of range per hour of charging. A 22kW charger can add significantly more, making it a better fit for drivers who cover longer distances or need a faster turnaround between charges. During our Free Solar Survey, we’ll assess your car’s battery capacity, your daily driving habits, and how quickly you need to charge – and recommend the right charger speed for your setup.
Can I charge my electric car entirely on solar energy?
Yes – but it requires a highly accurate system design to make it work reliably. EV chargers consume a significant amount of electricity, and without careful sizing, your charger can quickly draw more power than your panels are producing, pulling the remainder from the grid and increasing your bill rather than eliminating it.
The key variables are your panel output, your charger’s power rating, and the times of day you typically charge. During our Free Solar Survey, we’ll work through all of these with you to design a system that can genuinely cover your charging needs on solar energy. A battery is also worth considering – on cloudy days or after dark, a battery gives you stored solar energy to draw from rather than falling back on the grid. Without one, any charging outside of peak solar hours will pull from the grid as normal.
