Solar Installation: 30 Solar Panels on a Split-Pitch Villa Roof in Los Altos de los Monteros, Marbella

We eliminated a client's electricity bill entirely after installing 30 solar panels on their villa in Los Altos de los Monteros, Marbella – saving over €3,309 a year.

About the Project

Marblanc Solar installed a 30-panel, 18.15kWp system on a villa in Los Altos de los Monteros, Marbella, wiping out the client’s electricity bill and tipping them into annual credit. Every panel was fitted with an individual optimiser to manage a complex split-pitch tiled roof and surrounding tree shading, delivering projected annual savings of €3,309.68 – a first-year bill offset of 111%.

Background

The client was spending €2,981.70 a year on electricity – an average of €248.48 a month – on a substantial villa in the hills above Marbella. Their goal was straightforward: cut that cost as close to zero as the roof would allow, and take control of rising energy prices for the long term.

For clients across this part of the coast, we have a track record of designing systems around the specific demands of Marbella hillside villas. You can see more of our installations in Marbella and across Málaga province on our website. Every project starts with a free solar survey – an on-site visit combining a drone roof inspection, shading analysis, a review of past consumption, and a detailed system simulation, all feeding into a proposal built around the individual property.

Survey engineer Alan Manning carried out the assessment at this Los Altos de los Monteros villa. His energy assessment took into account:

The defining challenge was making an awkward, partially shaded roof perform like a clean one. As with our 18-panel installation on a multi-pitch villa roof in Marbella, where panels had to be spread across several roof faces of differing orientation and optimisers were fitted to counter inter-roof shading, the solution here depended on component-level optimisation to make every panel earn its place. The difference was scale: with 30 high-output panels and an optimiser on each, the system was sized to do more than trim the bill. Our energy modelling software projected annual savings of €3,309.68, taking the average monthly bill from €248.48 into a small monthly credit.

Solution

Our installation team mounted the 30 panels across the two usable planes of the villa’s terracotta hip roof, working the larger south-facing block and the smaller adjacent face into a single coordinated array. A TIGO TS4-A-O optimiser was fitted at every panel – not just the shaded ones – so each module operates independently, panel-level output can be monitored individually, and no underperforming panel can pull down the string around it. The Sigenergy SigenStor EC 20.0 three-phase inverter, rated at 20kW and hybrid battery-ready, was specified to carry the full output of the system and leave the door open for battery storage in future.

All DC and AC cabling was concealed within the roof structure and routed cleanly out of sight, keeping the finish tidy across a roofline that is visible from the garden and the approach. The Sunfer MicroRail mounting system was fixed with chemical resin and waterproofing compounds to preserve the integrity of the tiled roof and give a weather-resistant, leak-proof finish at every fixing point across both pitches.

Once the system was live, our engineers registered the client for a feed-in tariff with virtual battery, so surplus generation is credited back against future bills. Across the following fortnight we tracked daily electricity use, tuned plug timer settings to push consumption into peak solar hours, and set the client up on the monitoring app to follow generation and savings in real time. The client then joined our Monday–Sunday WhatsApp group for continuing aftersales care – the same support that backs every Marblanc installation.

Results

The 18.15kWp system is projected to save the client €3,309.68 a year on electricity in Los Altos de los Monteros, Marbella, turning an average monthly bill of €248.48 into a small monthly credit of around €27 – a first-year offset of 111%. On a 20-year view, the net present value of the investment stands at €65,973.08, with a total ROI of 319% and a discounted payback period of 5–6 years. This result comfortably exceeds the Marblanc 80% promise – rather than simply reducing the bill, the system clears it entirely and returns the client a modest annual credit, despite the roof's split-pitch geometry and surrounding shading. The project was completed and commissioned to brief.
