Our Story
When Adam Millington founded Marblanc Solar out of our Marbella office in 2022, he'd already spent years working as a qualified electrician on the Costa del Sol. He'd seen first-hand what happened when solar systems were sold by people who didn't understand electricity. Undersized arrays. Incorrect inverter configurations. Customers who'd been promised 70% savings and were still opening €200 electricity bills.
The problem wasn't the technology. Solar works. The problem was the process – and the people delivering it.
Our mission
Adam realised the need to build a company where qualified professionals handle every stage. Not salespeople. Not local handymen. Not subcontractors brought in from wherever was cheapest that week. Qualified electricians and certified survey engineers – in-house, on every job.
In 2024, certified survey engineer Roman Mitchell joined as co-owner. He brought with him a rigorous approach to system design and a commitment to solar proposals that can deliver on their promises. What happens to my solar battery during a power cut?
During a power cut, your solar inverter will shut down automatically – even if you have a battery installed. This is a mandatory safety feature built into all solar inverters, designed to prevent electricity from being exported to the grid while engineers may be working on cables. Without this protection, solar generation could put workers’ lives at risk. The consequence, however, is that without additional equipment, a power cut will leave you without power even if your battery is fully charged. The solution is a backup box. A backup box allows your inverter to detect the loss of grid power and switch seamlessly to drawing solely from your battery, isolating your home from the grid entirely. If you live in an area with frequent outages – or simply want the peace of mind of true energy independence – a backup box is an essential part of the system.
Can I add a battery to an existing solar panel system?
Yes – adding a battery to an existing solar panel system is something we do regularly. Many clients want storage but aren’t ready to invest at the point of their original installation, or they want to see how their savings perform before committing to the additional spend. Where possible, we help those clients install a panel system from the outset that can be easily upgraded with a battery later. For clients who originally installed with a different company, we also offer battery upgrades as a standalone service. We regularly receive calls from homeowners whose original installer has become unresponsive, and adding a battery to a third-party system is something we’re experienced in handling. It’s worth noting that this can sometimes require upgrading the inverter, or in cases where the original installation wasn’t up to standard, addressing faulty wiring before a battery can be added safely. What is the best solar battery brand available in Spain?
There are several excellent solar battery brands available in Spain, and the major manufacturers – Huawei, Fronius, and Tesla Powerwall among them – all perform the same core function: storing electricity generated by your panels for use later. Marblanc Solar is a certified installer for all three, as well as other leading brands, and our team undergoes regular manufacturer training to ensure we’re specifying and installing each system correctly. That said, we most commonly recommend Huawei solar batteries. Their systems integrate exceptionally well with equipment like backup boxes and EV chargers, and they offer superior safety features. For clients with home automation setups, Huawei’s open API also allows the battery system to interconnect with the wider smart home – something that matters more and more as homes become increasingly connected.
How long will a solar battery last through the night?
How long a solar battery lasts overnight depends entirely on your usage. During the Marblanc Solar Free Solar Survey, if you express an interest in battery storage, we’ll take you through a thorough Q&A to work out exactly what size system you need. If, for example, you want a battery to run your air conditioning through the night, we’ll look at your AC unit’s power consumption rating. If your AC consumes 2kW of power and you want to run it for 7 hours, we’d recommend a minimum 14kW battery – and that’s before accounting for anything else running in the home.
