Marblanc Solar Client Saves €9.44 After Switching to Solar With a Virtual Battery

Marbella, Spain – November 2025

A Marblanc Solar client has proven that reducing your electricity costs to €0 is possible with a solar installation on the Costa del Sol.

The client shared their October electricity bill, which showed €0 in consumption costs and an additional €9.44 in solar credit thanks to their new virtual battery system.

The same client also shared their bill from October 2024, when they were charged €182.62 for electricity. Just 12 months later, their new system has helped reduce their electricity costs to €0 while earning surplus credit.

When they installed their system earlier this year, our original proposal estimated an 87% reduction in electricity consumption costs.

Instead, they achieved 100% elimination of consumption charges.

Shortly after receiving the bill, the client WhatsApped Marblanc Solar co-owners Roman Mitchell and Adam Millington to say:

“Looks pretty good to me! We overproduced more than we consumed.”

The client also mentioned they were now checking whether their electricity provider, Endesa, would allow the €9.44 surplus credit to be applied against another property in their name.

Our client’s October bill, showing they bought €50,82 worth of electricity from the grid but sold €60,26 back to it. The €40,18 cost is for standing charges.
The client’s bill in October the previous year, showing a total electricity cost of €182,62. The final amount was reduced by a €63,91 discount unrelated to the actual price of electricity.

Understanding How the Virtual Battery Works

You may notice that the recent bill total is not €0.

Instead, it totals €40.18.

This is because even with solar and a virtual battery, providers in Spain will still charge unavoidable fixed costs. These typically include:

  • Electricity taxes
  • VAT
  • “Alquiler de contador” (the regulated rental fee for the physical electricity meter)
  • Subscription or service fees (in this example, the client paid €2.04 to activate the virtual battery service)

This bill is an excellent example of how the virtual battery works in practice.

The advantage of a virtual battery is this: it lets you fully offset the cost of electricity you buy from the grid. In this case:

  • Last October, the client paid €182.62 for electricity.
  • This October, without the virtual battery, the energy portion of the bill was €50.82 — an 82% reduction thanks to solar production alone.
  • But because the client had a virtual battery, even that €50.82 was reduced to €0, and an additional €9.44 was earned in credit.

So while the client still paid €40 in fixed costs…

Without a virtual battery, their bill would have been approximately €91 – more than double.

Even more notable is that the client did not install a physical solar battery.

“We Recommend the Virtual Battery to All Clients”

“This is exactly why we recommend the virtual battery to all our clients,” said Roman Mitchell, co-owner of Marblanc Solar.

“Instead of excess solar power being wasted, the virtual battery helps you maximise your savings with the exact same installation and at no additional hardware cost.”

Roman added that this case is a great example of how effective the virtual battery can be – even without a physical solar storage battery.

“This client has proven you can reach a zero electricity usage bill with only solar panels — as long as the system is sized correctly.”

As part of our post-installation care, Marblanc Solar helps every client switch to the right feed-in tariff with a virtual battery at no additional charge.

In this case, the client selected Endesa, one of Spain’s major electricity providers.

Co-owner Adam Millington added:

“While some clients prefer to stay with their existing provider, we also partner with a specialist solar electricity company who can often offer better rates – both for electricity bought from the grid and for surplus solar sold back to it.”
