The client’s electricity bills had been running at nearly €918 a month – an annual spend of over €11,000 on grid power for a large residential property in the hills above Marbella. The goal was straightforward: reduce that figure significantly and make the most of the exceptional solar resource the site had to offer.
We have carried out a number of installations in Benahavís for clients in similar positions – large villas, high consumption, and real potential for solar to make a substantial difference. In each case, the starting point is a free solar survey: an on-site visit combined with drone analysis, shading assessment, consumption modelling, and a tailored proposal built around the specific conditions of the property.
Survey engineer Enrique Ferreiro visited the property and quickly identified that the roof itself was not the right location for the installation. A large, south-facing stone retaining wall on the lower terrace offered a far better option – unobstructed, well-oriented, and large enough to accommodate the full array. Maximising output was the client’s primary objective – the same driver we saw in our residential installation at Balcón de Benaviста, Benahavís, where the brief was also built around achieving the highest possible savings from the available site conditions. Here, the retaining wall gave us the surface area to install all 40 panels in a single continuous run, and our energy modelling confirmed a projected annual saving of €5,012.35 – cutting the monthly bill from €917.64 to €499.95.
Our team installed all 40 panels in a single continuous row along the south-facing retaining wall – a long, gently curving run that follows the natural line of the stonework and sits flush against it. Enrique Ferreiro designed the layout to make full use of the wall’s width while keeping the array at a consistent tilt angle to optimise generation across the year. The Sigenergy SigenStor EC 15.0 TP inverter was specified as a three-phase unit with hybrid capability, meaning battery storage can be retrofitted in future without replacing the inverter – a useful option to have open given the scale of the system.
All DC and AC cabling was routed cleanly from the wall to the inverter and into the property’s electrical system, with UV-rated conduit used throughout to withstand the exposed outdoor conditions. The Sunfer Microrail mounting structure was fixed directly to the wall using resin anchors and sealed with high-grade waterproof membranes, preserving the integrity of the stonework and ensuring a weather-resistant finish.
Following installation, we registered the system with the grid, secured the client’s feed-in tariff with a virtual battery, and monitored daily electricity usage for the first two weeks – adjusting plug timer settings and configuring the solar monitoring app to give the client full visibility of their generation and consumption. The client was also added to our Monday–Sunday WhatsApp aftersales care group for ongoing support.
