We cut a client's electricity costs by over €2,400 a year after fitting 20 solar panels and battery storage to a villa in Guadalmina Baja, Marbella.
The client wanted to bring down the high running costs of a large villa in Guadalmina Baja, Marbella, and to store solar energy for use into the evening. Marblanc Solar designed a 12kW system of 20 solar panels paired with 9.04kWh of battery storage, working the array across a complex multi-pitch roof. The installation is projected to save the client €2,432.98 a year, cutting their electricity bill by 43%.
The client owns a substantial villa in Guadalmina Baja, one of Marbella’s established residential areas, and was facing electricity bills averaging €474.32 a month – around €5,691.80 a year. With consumption at that level, they wanted to generate their own power during the day and, just as importantly, store enough of it to draw on through the evening rather than buying expensive grid electricity after dark.
The client had seen our other installations in Marbella – part of our wider portfolio across Málaga province – and booked a free solar survey. This began with an on-site visit and a drone inspection of the roof, followed by a 3D shading analysis, detailed energy modelling and a proposal built around the property’s real consumption pattern.
Our survey engineer Enrique Ferreiro found a property that was demanding on two fronts: high year-round consumption, and a traditional clay-tiled roof made up of several pitched sections at different orientations, wrapped by mature trees and tall palms that cast shade across parts of the roof through the day.
Our energy assessment took into account:
The defining challenge was making a single array perform well across that broken roofline. Rather than compromise, we specified a Trigo 700W power optimiser on every one of the 20 panels, so each panel works independently – shaded or differently-angled panels no longer drag down the rest of the string, and the client gets panel-level monitoring across the whole system. Battery storage was built in from the start. As with our 20-panel installation with battery storage in El Rosario, Marbella, where a battery was added to bring bills down further on a home with significant nighttime consumption, the 9.04kWh unit here lets the client store daytime generation and use it into the evening. The proposal modelled a saving of €2,432.98 a year, taking the average monthly bill from €474.32 down to €271.57.
Our installation team fitted the 20 panels across the villa’s south-facing roof planes, stepping the array around the hips and ridges of the tiled roof to make the most of each usable section. Because the roof offers no single large south aspect, spreading the panels this way – combined with a power optimiser on each one – lets the system capture strong generation across the day rather than depending on one orientation. Every panel is individually monitored, so any drop in output from shading or debris shows up immediately.
Throughout the installation, cabling was routed cleanly out of sight and the tiled roof was sealed and protected with high-grade waterproofing to preserve a weather-resistant, leak-proof finish – important on a traditional clay-tiled roof of this kind. The Sunfer MicroRail structure was set out to suit the specific pitch and layout of each roof face.
Once the system was live, we switched the client onto a provider offering a feed-in tariff with a virtual battery, so surplus daytime generation earns value rather than going to waste. Our team then monitored the property’s electricity use daily for two weeks, fine-tuning consumption with plug timers and the solar app to push self-consumption as high as possible. The client was added to our Monday–Sunday WhatsApp aftersales care group and booked in for their first free annual check-up.
Our Free Solar Survey includes: home visit, drone inspection, 3D performance model, two custom proposals and break-even estimations.
